He won the National Junior Indoor in 1954 and finished the year as the No. 6 U.S. junior. MARILYN MUELLER
Marilyn Mueller was one of St. Louis’ most prolific tennis champions and a fixture for decades at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. She won local, regional and national championships that numbered in the hundreds. She and her friend Jane Pratt were a two-woman team who ran the Municipal Tennis Association, aka the Muny, from the 1950s into the 2000s. A 1990 story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Marilyn had won more than 70 Muny titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. She also won the St. Louis District singles championship nine times in 13 years and the USTA Missouri Valley singles title five years in a row. On a national level, she won five National Public Parks titles, including two in women’s 40-and-over doubles with Jane. Marilyn also won several National Senior Olympics singles titles. Many of her titles were won in mixed doubles with Bill Heinbecker as her partner.
